Assassins Creed 2

The first reviews for Assassin’s Creed 2 are flooding in and they are mostly resoundingly positive. Gamerzines own David Scammell has posted his thoughts in this month’s P3Zine. Here are a few extracts:

“There have been many big improvements, you do still get the overall impression that AC is greater than the sum of its parts,”

“A far cry from the relatively dull and one-dimensional Altair, Ezio actually has a degree of personality. No puppet, he shows reasoning behind his actions and as the character evolves from boylike figure into a cold, ruthless killer you’ll start to feel some empathy for him- something impossible to achieve with Altair.”

“It’s this excellent pacing, and a sense of progression and constant reward that plays a key role in the success of Assassin’s Creed 2.”

“Indeed, in a complete contrast to the first game, ACII actually gets better as it goes along”

To build up a little more hype before Assassin’s Creed 2 is finally released this November, Ubisoft have commissioned a short series of live action films to introduce some of the games plot. Dubbed Lineage, it represents one of the more interesting ways to attract our attention during this busy gaming period.

Ubisoft have released the latest developer diary for Assassin’s Creed 2. The very informative video focuses on the enemies Ezio will come up against and what weapons he’ll get his hands on when the game is released in November for consoles.

Ubisoft have announced that the PC version of Assassin’s Creed 2 has been delayed until the first quarter of 2010. They have released a statement on their Twitter feed which reads like this:

“Assassin’s Creed 2 PC has moved to the first quarter of 2010. A bit more time for the dev team to deliver the best quality game to you.”

No word was given for the delay, but we are expecting a statement from Ubisoft shortly.

The latest Asssassin’s Creed 2 Developer Diary has been released by Ubisoft and it contains some really interesting snippets of infomation including randomised NPCs, branching cutscenes and you get to hear Ezio’s voice for the first time.

IGN have recently revealed a few of the new toys in Ezio’s arsenal. These tools all result in a more varied experience than the original and are only the first of many tools to be revealed by Ubisoft. Unfortunately there are no screenshots available which show any of these tools in action but at least the detailed descriptions give you a flavour of what to expect when the game’s released in November.

America’s rating board for games, the ESRB, has confirmed the existence of an extra Assassin’s Creed release which will hit the shelves later this year. Named Assassin’s Creed 2: Discovery, we can expect the same kind of gameplay as in last year’s Altair’s Chronicles which, like Discovery, is also a DS exclusive.

Ubisoft have announced, well known author, Danny Wallace has been cast as one of the key characters in Assassin’s Creed 2. Playing Shaun Hastings, Mr Wallace’s voice and likeness will be used to communicate information about locations and missions throughout the games campaign.
